Praying for Your Husband

With the new movie "War Room" out and doing very well in the box office, i thought it would be a great time to talk about the power of prayer specifically for your husband. Prayer is so powerful! Never underestimate the power of prayer. When you are praying according to God's will, your prayer is unstoppable. The power of prayer resides in God whom we pray to. 1 John 5:14-15 says, "This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us ,whatever we ask ,we know that we have what we asked of him." God hears and answers prayers according to his will. His answers are not always yes, but are always in our best interest.

We live in a society that constantly makes fun of men. You can see this portrayed in movies, and TV shows that make men appear to be clueless about life, and irresponsible. Men were created to rule, protect and lead the family and this can result in a lot of pressure! Some men choose to neglect and avoid their responsibilities in life. Satan so badly wants to destroy our husbands, especially his leadership and character. We as wives need to be prayer warriors for our husbands. Our husbands want nothing more then for us to respect, support and encourage them. We can start the day off right by trusting in God through prayer. Surrender your husband, marriage and family to him every morning. Covering your husband with prayer before he heads out into the world is one of the best things you can do for him.

Here are a few specific things you can pray about for your husband and even future spouse if you are not married.

 Walk with God
The most important relationship your husband can have is with Jesus first and foremost. "My son, do not forget my teaching, but let your heart keep my commandments, for length of days and years of life and peace they will add to you. Let not steadfast love and faithfulness forsake you; bind them around your neck; write them on the tablet of your heart. So you will find favor and good success in the sight of God and man. Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. ..." Proverbs 3:1-23
Pray for God’s protection that no person or situation will ever be allowed to harm your marriage. "Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh." Genesis 2:24

Pray that God will create in you a clean heart, a heart that is ready to serve and support your husband and family. "He who finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains favor from the Lord." Proverbs 18:22
Pray that your husband will lean on God throughout the day for the choices he will have to make daily (big and small decisions). "Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths." Proverbs 3:5-6

Work and Career
Pray that your husband will glorify God at work and trust that the Lord will provide."Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men". Colossians 3:23

Our men are plagued everyday in this sexually explicit culture we live in. It can be very hard to stay pure in mind, body and spirit since men were created to enjoy visual stimulation."For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you abstain from sexual immorality." Thessalonians 4:3

Pray that your husband will find purpose each and everyday. We all have a greater purpose, but God works in our lives daily. "And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose."Romans 8:28

Pray for his protection and safe keeping, especially from the devil. There is an ongoing spiritual battle, Satan does not want your husband to be a Godly leader of the home. "But the Lord is faithful. He will establish you and guard you against the evil one."
 2 Thessalonians 3:3

Pray for honesty and strong moral principles. "Better is a poor man who walks in his integrity than a rich man who is crooked in his ways". Proverbs 28:6

As mentioned above, there biblical responsibilities that our husbands have. Pray that God will calm any anxieties (financial, etc). "For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope."
Jeremiah 29:11

"No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it." 1 Corinthians 10:13

Self image
Pray that your husband will remember that he is a new creation. He is covered by the blood of Jesus and his worth and value is already in Christ. "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come."
1 Corinthians 5:17
