Excuses to Avoid Reading The Bible

Excuses for not reading the Bible... we are all guilty, which one do you use the most?

I Don't Have Time!
If only we had more hours in the day! Right? Or would we still have the excuse "I don't have time" no matter how many hours we were given? This is a struggle we all face, including myself. Everything can consume your time from being a mom with young kids, working, maintaining home and family and just being straight up to tired!
The truth is, we can make time, even if 5 minutes is all you have, commit to it! Think about you relationships with people that are closest to you. Do you talk to them on a daily basis? call, Facebook or text them? You have to communicate with God as well, to maintain a personal relationship. The Bible is technically written by God through various people, what he has to say must be important!

I Go to Church Every Week
The bible talks about the importance of church. In fact, I Corinthians 12:14-16 reveals that each part of the body of Christ, the church, is made up of several members; “Even so the body is not made up of one part but of many. Now if the foot should say, “Because I am not a hand, I do not belong to the body,” it would not for that reason stop being part of the body. And if the ear should say, “Because I am not an eye, I do not belong to the body,” it would not for that reason stop being part of the body.” Church is a great place to learn, grow and support one another, but it should not be a reason we have to opt out of reading the Bible daily is because we attend church. Listening to sermons is not enough! Read for yourself, make sure you know what the Bible has to say for yourself. You are accountable! The more you dig into the Bible, the more you will hunger for God's word and communication.

I don’t Understand the Bible.
Sometimes it can be discouraging to try and read the Bible when you may not understand it. Make sure you are reading a translation you can understand., ask your pastor questions, read slowly and carefully and highlight texts. Also pray each time you open the bible that God will direct your thoughts and give you understanding.

Is the Bible Even Real?
If you are hesitant and unsure the bible is real, there is so much evidence out there that the bible is real and still very much so applicable to the modern society. A great book to start out with is called "Case for Christ" by Lee Strobel. This book takes a look at real historical evidence of Jesus and the truth in the bible. Also, pray! God is there and waiting for you to talk to him. God will reveal himself to you through the Holy Spirit, and that is an experience words cannot describe.

  1. We can all find all sorts of excuses for not reading the Bible but wouldn’t it be easier to just start reading it instead of constantly searching for excuses? I’ve stopped waiting my time searching for them and just started reading. I can read as little as 1 page daily or a much as 20 pages. I just want to read something each day. I write down passages I don’t understand and ask my pastor a lot of questions until I get it. He is more than happy to help and I think most pastors will feel the same if asked about this.
