9 Tips to Consistently Read the Bible

It is so important to stay connected to God’s word on a daily basis. I am guilty of struggling with consistency at times just as much as any other person. Life gets busy, but nothing is more important than a great relationship with our creator. Here are some tips to consistently make reading the Bible a priority.

Remove distractions. Turn off all electronics if you cant resist the urge tamper with them during your reading time. If you are easily distracted by the web, don’t read the Bible on your computer or phone, where FaceBook or other websites could be a distraction.

Use a reading plan. This will help you out because you will already know where to pick up and begin. Check out my FREE Bible reading plans under the Resource section of this website or find one that you like.

Pick the right Bible.
Pick a good version; one that’s easy to understand and that you like to read. Research the different types of Bibles, but make sure it is one that you will understand. I prefer the NIV, but there are several options out there.

Set a time. Choose a time to read and as much as possible stick to it. This will help build the habit of reading, soon it will become part of your daily routine.

Begin and end your reading time with prayer. Ask God to help you understand and apply what you’ve read. Maybe he has a message for you!

Take the time to understand what you read. Not understanding a Scripture fully can cause you to take it out of context. Read slowly and ask questions with someone you know that really knows the Bible. Feel free to ask questions in the comment section, this could lead to a great discussion.

Write in your Bible.
Highlight and write in your Bible, you can even color code it (green highlighter= questions, etc).

Accountability Partners. Find someone that you can talk to about what you’re reading. Have them ask you frequently how you’re doing. This can help hold you accountable. We are here for you at Wonderfully Made to encourage you on your journey, but it does help to have a friend participate with you.

Apply What You Learn. James 1:23 says "Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror". Reading God’s Word will change you! Apply it to your life so that you can grow in Christ everyday.
