DIY All Natural Body Butter

Have you ever read the back of your bath and body works lotions? I'm talking about the ingredients? Don't get me wrong, it smells amazing but what about all of those ingredients that you cant pronounce?! Upon further research, I learned about the different kinds of "things" that are going into your lotion bottles. Here are a few examples:

Polyethylene glycol (PEG, PPG, Cocoate), propylene glycol, polyoxyethylene, polyethoxyethylene, polyethoxyethylene mineral oil
What It Is: Petroleum byproducts
Health Risks: Carcinogen; liver and kidney effects

Prefixes Ethyl, Methyl, Butyl or Propyl
What It Is: Parabens
Health Risks: Endocrine disrupters that mimic estrogen; linked to weight gain and breast cancer

Fragrance, DEHP, DHP, DBP 5, Dibutyl Phthalate

What It Is: Phthalates
Health Risks: infertility

Those are just the first few ingredients of  a long list! Not sure about you, but thats a turn off. The good news is, it is  actually very easy to make your own lotion that will hydrate your skin all day long. It also smells very refreshing! Check out the recipe below and try it out for yourself! 


5 oz Organic Coconut Oil
1 oz Cocoa Butter
Essential Oil of your choice.(or fragrance of your choice)

Mix ingredients at room temperature in a kitchen aid (or other kind) mixer with a paddle attachment. Store body butter in airtight container (glass sugar canister works great).

*body butter may at times feel a little coarse when using (because of the coconut oil), but it will instantly melt into your skin ...that's literally it! try making it! Lavender and peppermint scented lotions are very lovely! You can buy supplies in bulk online. Right now you can get all of these items for a wonderful price on amazon.
