Inexpensive, Green and Clean: DIY Cleaning Products

I wouldn't call myself an "everything should be organic and all natural" kind of person. I do however like to keep my family healthy and save money! Making your own cleaning solutions is extremely easy and does not cost much at all. I do love my Clorox wipes, and I still use them for specific jobs, but I'm not thrilled that the box says that it is harmful to skin contact and rinse immediately. Here are some safe alternatives I use at home that aren't sketchy when you accidentally get it on your hands! They are just as effective in killing germs. For any recipe that includes vinegar, don't worry, once it dries the smell will go away.

All Purpose Cleaner (Don't use this on marble and granite)
8 oz. of water
2 tbsp. baking soda
2 tsp. of castile soap
5 drops of essential oil

Bathroom Cleaner
3/4 cup of baking soda
1 lemon squeezed
3 tbsp of castile soap
1/2 cup of vinegar
drops of essential oil
fill the rest of the bottle with water

Glass Surface Cleaner
1 Cup of white distilled vinegar
2 cups of water

*If you dont like seeing the lint on glass from using cloth towels or paper towels, use a newspaper! it leaves the glass surface sleek and completely clean.

Serious Scrubbing Cleaner (not for granite or marble)

8 oz of water
1 cup of borax
splash of lemon juice
1/3 cup of white distilled vinegar

Bathroom Cleaner
1/2 cup of vinegar
1 cup of baking soda
1 squeezed lemon
2 tbsp. castile soap
drops of essential oil (tea tree oil is amazing by the way!

Carpet Stains
1 cup of water
1-2 drops of castile soap

Serious Carpet Stains
Recipe above
1 cup of borax

Produce Wash (soak and rinse vegetable and fruit)
1/3 cup of hydrogen peroxide
2 cups of water

  4. Interesting post. Many people don't realize the amount of dangerous chemicals that are used in typical household cleaners. It will take everyone doing their part to help eliminate harmful chemicals from the home and our environment.
